Re-solution

Ho ho ho...

Its that time of the year when people tend to look back on the year that was and plan ahead. Just as the Christmas holidays kick in and the party spirit takes over, is when everyone tend to do some heady introspection on the year that was and of course, make resolutions for the coming year. I for one, haven’t been a very big fan of this whole procedure…I’d rather ring in the New Year on a happy note and try to put any regretful act(s) behind…

As far as resolutions go, well I’ve given up on them. Ever since I’ve been, like nine (that’s probably when I learnt the meaning of the word ‘resolution’), I’ve tried my luck with resolutions, with little effect, every year - learn the bicycle, buy a new racket, don’t fight with sisters, manage acads and co-curriculars, keep a personal diary, learn a somersault, finish War and Peace, etc., etc., etc. Well, to put it succinctly, they didn’t go very well. Not at all.

But I’m darn sure I’m not the only one out there with failed New Year resolutions. All of us are, nay, all of humanity is, in the same boat. But its not that all of mankind lacks resolve. I guess it has something to do with the whole concept of New Year resolutions. The pressure of keeping up a resolution and all the hype surrounding it is probably why we can’t keep them up in the first place. Or maybe its just something to do with New Year’s…or the word ‘resolution’ itself- heavy word, isn’t it? And pretty disheartening too. I guess they should call it something else, maybe a ‘New Year’s wish’. That way, if you can’t keep it up, its just one of the many wishes that aren’t ‘meant’ to be granted as yet (like a car, Xbox, iPhone, a mountain bike, the new Woodlands hiking shoes, etc.) and if you do somehow manage to keep up, then Voila! It’s a New Year’s miracle!

Anyway, Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year to everyone! Hopefully the new nomenclature will work for you. :)
